Thanks to solidarity from @aft.org and @aflcio.org, the #NSHE Board of Regents did NOT change the collective bargaining policy. Faculty negotiating contracts now will continue to do so under the current rules! #WhenWeFightWeWin!

Nevada faculty are grateful for all the solidarity today. Showing up meant the Regents moved up the agenda item. Our collective advocacy meant the Regents postponed changing collective bargaining policy changes and requesting more faculty input in future process on changes!

We had solidarity in Vegas, Reno, and in Elko! Labor in all corners of the state came out in solidarity to say "no" to changing the rules for collective bargaining in the middle of faculty contract negotiations! And the Regents backed down and postponed any changes! @higheredlabor.bsky.social

"As for faculty, more than a third of provosts reported higher-than-usual turnover last year, in a survey by Hanover Research and the industry publication Inside Higher Ed."

Attacks on #HigherEd come from the federal government, but also governing boards. #CollectiveBargaining now!
"You’re basically knee-capping that younger generation" -- @isaackamola.bsky.social (President of the Trinity College AAUP and Director of the @aaup.org Center for the Defense of Academic Freedom) interviewed in The Hechinger Report on why faculty and graduate students are leaving academia
A ‘Great Defection’ threatens to empty universities and colleges of top teaching talent
Political attacks and other problems appear to be driving an exodus of Ph.D.s and faculty from higher education, threatening a diminished experience for undergraduates.

Public employees deserve the right to collectively bargain! Glad to see Utah fighting back. Nevada Faculty Alliance @nvfa.bsky.social hopes to see Nevada expand collective bargaining to #HigherEd faculty next session (we'll keep trying until we get rights!)
In a state with one of the most challenging referendum processes in the nation, organizers gathered more than double the number of required signatures to give voters a chance to defeat an anti-union bill. inthesetimes.com/article/utah...

No kings.
America is beautiful, contradictory, unfinished. I am proud of our country even as we constantly strive to make it better, to protect and deepen our democracy, to fulfill its promise for each and every person who calls it home.

And Regents did vote to suspend faculty performance pay for FY2026 and FY2027. With no merit steps, no COLAs, the expiration of retention bonuses, and higher employee retirement contributions, faculty pay decreases on July 1, 2025. There is no suspension of inflation in cost of living! #NSHE #NvLeg
