I am A Panda. I work on systems and networking at NYU.

https://aws.amazon.com/message/101925/ is a really interesting read: it is cool to see what went wrong beyond the meme of "it is always DNS". (Also, it is always a race condition too.)

Interesting (and scary) to see a blog post (https://thenewstack.io/research-ebpf-not-always-a-silver-bullet-for-network-apps/) about a new paper (led by @fshahinfar1.bsky.social, along with @gianniantichi.bsky.social and Sebastiano) explainging that the new shiny technology is not a panacea.

Last Thursday I had an awesome opportunity to share my work about eBPF CPU cache efficiency on the ACM student competition stage along six other awesome presentations. I would like to thank the organizers and people who attended session and listened to the talks.

This week, we hear @natefoster.bsky.social's response to Why Nines? A cat is involved in producing the video, but like many good producers does not appear in the video.

Recently, I have been busy exploring eBPF Arena — a new API that enables eBPF programs to allocate memory pages; similar functionality as mmap and munmap . I've written a blog post about it that I like to share with you: fshahinfar1.github.io/blog/04_ebpf...

I don’t often post about books I enjoy because taste is subjective, etc. But I think more people should read Service Model by Adrian Tchaikovsky: a lot of the book is about the decline of civilization, but the last bit is a great discussion of the pitfalls of codifying social rules and justice.

Less than a month to the HotOS 2025 deadline (January 15). Submit your “hottest” systems ideas (by which I of course mean most interesting and fun ideas), and come hangout in Banff for two days in May. More details in the CFP at sigops.org/s/conference....
