Countdown to the crucial disability benefit vote – Version 6
Updated 21st June

Thank you, Vicky Foxcroft.
Your resignation — in protest at these cruel cuts — will be remembered.
As a former shadow disabilities minister, you spoke up when it mattered.
History will show who stood up — and who stayed

Labour’s benefit cuts could cost £38.2bn in lost GDP, £18.4bn in tax, £13.7bn in public services. 9.3m people — incl. 3m children — face hunger. The Trussell Trust joins NEF, JRF, and others: this isn’t fiscal responsibility. It’s performative cruelty. www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

The DWP is utter chaos.
They want to push through this democidal 4+ rule, then run a consultation on PIP daily living changes in late autumn, with the OBR assessment not due till October and the safeguarding review in November.

It’s an absolute shitshow.

Dear Press,

Labour say there’ll be safeguards for high-risk claimants when benefits are cut. But no major disability or mental health org believes that’s possible—and the risk assessment won’t even be published until autumn.

Please don’t take their word for it.

Labour MP Rachael Maskell:

“You can’t compromise with a trade-off under which you say you will take more children from poor families out of poverty by placing more disabled people into poverty.”

Exactly.

Yes, many MPs are sending copy-and-paste replies.
No, that doesn’t mean they’re unaffected.
The replies are performance—a show of calm, of “Okness.”
But 100s and 1000s of emails land. They register. They unsettle underneath.
Keep going if you've spoons. You’re shifting something.
