So frustrated. Professor gave me a list of 20+ sources to explore on a topic. Over half don't exist. DOI links are either to an unrelated article or don't exist. ChatGPT at work? #PhDLife

Friends, what's the level of formality in dress at European GLAM conferences? I am going to MTSR in Greece in December and I'm trying to figure out how fancy I should be. #archiveslife #archives #libraries #conferencss

Met with my advisor and member of my committee today. Advisor: super excited about topic, asks for her homework to help me. Other member: "Yeah, I don't think that will work. But I'm not here to tell you what to do. I'm here to listen." 🙃 #PhDLife

Conference told me they'd let me know today if my paper was accepted. How long do I give them before I politely email asking for an answer? These international flights for the week before Christmas aren't getting any cheaper! #AcademicSky #ArchivesLife

We recently lost our Florida Studies Curator to a tragic death. He was working on something about Jose Gaspar and Gasparilla before his death. I hope to write my class paper on pirates and dedicate it to him.

My GLAM folks, what non-US conference have you found most helpful? Bonus points if it's focused on metadata. I'm weighing between a conference in Thessaloniki and one in Bristol. 📜📚

I have an article idea about linking between catalogs/repositories and ArchivesSpace. Problem is it's too long for Archival Outlook but going to be too short for a journal. Any ideas for places? 📜📚

Any of my fellow GLAM folks doing National Article Writing Month with @libwrtcoop.bsky.social? Hoping to get another idea down into a tangible form in July! 📜

I've got an article almost ready to submit but after it was rejected very harshly the first time, I'd love for someone to take a look. Any #skystorians who do German, WW2, Soviet, or education history want to take a quick read for me?

Today's opinion: Simon and Garfunkel's "Sound of Silence" is one of the greatest songs of all time. What's on your list?

I've been trying to read more around the world this year. In May I checked off books set in and written by authors from Cyprus, Trinidad, Iraq, and Antigua. I attempted a book from Azerbaijan but gave up about 80 pages in.

A new book demonstrates how humanities librarians and scholars brought special expertise, experience, and attributes that were critical to the defense of democracy in the face of tyranny.

I'm transitioning departments and my new role will have a lot more of a research component. On the one hand I am super excited to get to deep dive into the collections. On the other hand, our library is downsizing and I'm not sure I'll survive the cuts.

I have been struggling mightily with motivation the past few weeks. What's the point writing the metadata if I'm gonna lose my job or someone orders it taken down? My therapist tried to remind me my work matters. It's important. And one day it won't be like this.

Well that's a new one. Article rejected for a journal; reviewer said the writing was so bad it was like it was written by someone who didn't speak English. Not only in English my first language, this was an approved chapter of my MA thesis.

Just submitted another chapter of my thesis for publication in a journal. Hopefully one of them will get accepted! #skystorians

Hey fellow #skystorians - how long do you wait for an article to be reviewed before pulling it and trying at a different journal? I have an article I submitted almost a year ago that hasn't gone to reviewers yet and I'm wondering if I should pull and submit elsewhere.

@fobettarh.bsky.social Just wanted to thank you again for your Vocational Awe article. I was just at a conference of public historians and the concept was alive and well in several panels. You truly wrote an article that applies to many in the humanities.

Conference has been rough. I've been in pain with my right knee and then today did the same patella popping out of place to my left. I also don't have the mental stamina for 12 hours of conferencing in a day multiple days in a row. Things to definitely consider for future conferences #NCPH2025

Back from a very delicious Syrian meal at Le Petit Alep. English was my waiter's third language so he described something as being "eggbush" instead of "eggplant" but otherwise that's been the only language mixup. Still getting used to being greeted in French.

At some point I have to stop collecting PDFs and actually read them. Or, is this secretly what all PhD students do and that whole dissertation thing is a scam to help out ink sales? #thatPhDLife

Checking out Montreal bagels at St. Viateur. I know I'll get flak for it, but they are delicious and dare I say better than an NYC bagel?

The only reason I am up at 3:30 this morning is to head off to the airport for #NCPH2025! So excited to be in Montreal and be with some of the best. Of course my Florida-based bones are gonna freeze but at least I'll have a blast doing so!
