Opinionated feminist bisexual anti-racist troublemaker. Suddenly into genealogy. A bit cultish about a few things. In Pittsburgh, where the air makes it hard to breathe, and from Perry, NY.
[I can’t reply in this thread - is it because I don’t follow the OP? I don’t know the ways of Bluesky - but I have thoughts]

Having been one of the handful of people in my hometown who saw red flags about someone others were lauding and supporting, it wasn’t “personal vindication” exactly
Also, it's kind of irrelevant if you "didn't like them" before it turned out they'd done something horrible. It ain't about your personal vindication.

New York ironweed seed heads, and the often-skittish neighborhood cat decided to roll in our driveway and let me pet it and pick it up. (Cats should not be outdoors because they predate on birds, but I still want to say hello)

So glad I have my coffee at hand.
I’m sure someone could provide a worse three paragraphs of “analysis” in this moment, but Peter Baker really sets the bar low here — with what he opined, who he decided to rely on as a source, and why he included those absurd claims without refutation.

‘It’s been quite a ride!’ Melvyn Bragg to step down from Radio 4’s In Our Time after 27 years

Melvyn can make awkward steps at times, but I cherish the things I’ve learned from the show. I’ve followed numerous scholars who have been guests, who continue to enrich my understanding of.

I am delighted that this delightful book has a 100th anniversary edition, but Penguin Random House’s invitation to “Never miss a new book by Anita Loos” seems a titch optimistic

Haymarket was excellent episode of In Our Time but really what's news is that I have found a few more of my people - the people who like knowing how many guests take tea and how many take coffee (and the one time I think I heard Melvyn actually take coffee, can you imagine?).

Can I trust a movie that tosses out a "fact" that triggers my "probably not" response? If I had been in a theater, I would have been sorely tempted to pull out my phone seven minutes in when the main character of "The Amateur" claims that White House Christmas trees always come from Leighton, PA.

Instead of re-reading the Bible, I reminded myself about my great-grandfather Charles Weiland, who, upon hearing a sermon about original sin circa 1905, looked down at his little girls - my grandmother and her sister - declared, "My girls are not sinful" and never went to church again.

elsewhere a childhood friend suggested i re-read the bible in order to discuss something or other. i have long since lost interest in religion personally, and patriarchal hierarchy does not appeal, but still i appreciate those who keep fighting for their faiths to be truer to their supposed beliefs.

Jason says The Youngs don't know about Magic Slates. Granted, I didn't even know its proper name, but I found this -so much *I* never knew!

"The Magic Slate has been described as "one of the all-time great cheap toys", and "the unsung, silent hero of the Cold War"."
