There’s 1,000 times more chatter about the Maine senate race in a year than about Maine’s ballot measure in 3 weeks that’d bring voter ID and crack down on mail voting… maybe let’s start there??? boltsmag.org/maine-questi...
A Ballot Measure Targets Mail Voting in Maine - Bolts
Question 1, on the November ballot, would set up a barrage of new restrictions on absentee ballots that would considerably affect older voters and people with disabilities.

Cool about GLP1s, but I'm more excited about the addition of rapid acting analogue insulin! This is actually a big deal! In LMICs, MOHs rely on the EML when deciding what to cover. Including rapid acting insulins to the list opens the door a little bit wider to better prices and more access.

Imagine if all this actually results in corporations paying their fair share into the government? Corporate Dems would never.

(Don't worry, I know where that money will really go)

We need more and more frequent buses in Eastern Queens! We don't have any subway lines. I've barely been to other parts of the borough I grew up in because of how hard it is to get around it efficiently.
Today I'm so honored to earn the endorsement of @drichardsqns.bsky.social, who fights for the world's borough every day.

We recently rode the Q4 in Jamaica, one of the five bus lines made free in our fare free bus pilot. Ridership jumped 30%, and everyone's commute got a little bit easier.

Probably doesn't help that they've defunded the NPS.
Why the hell was a wildfire allowed to burn at the Grand Canyon in the middle of July during one of the driest years on record?

I’m demanding answers and a full investigation from the Department of the Interior.

Columbia announces it will adopt IHRA definition of antisemitism, "zero tolerance" approach to discrimination/harassment policy, partner with the ADL.

This is very similar to the terms of Barnard's settlement in Students Against Antisemitism v. Columbia; possible we will see another settlement

In dangerously high temperatures (and you don't know what that may be for someone) maybe we do a little less policing of how people stay cool. Your aesthetic preferences really don't matter to me here.

While I don't deny an east coast election bias, I think a lot of this latest disproportionate coverage was driven by the opportunity to be both Islamaphobic and anti-social safety programs. They can't resist!
The nation's fifth most populous county, San Diego, just chose its political future today—and appears to have chosen to have a Democratic local government—and it's crickets everywhere. Quite the eye-popping example of the NY/East-Coast-bias of how elections get covered.

So am I reading this court decision correctly? We now have 50 micronations with their own laws interpreting the U.S. Constitution wholly separate from one another? But there's one guy with private law enforcement who is immune from all punishment who can do whatever he wants in those 50 states?

Leftist Democrats in the state remember what happened to India Walton who fairly won the Democrat primary in Buffalo and then lost in the general with the state Democrat party ran their guy anyway, who lost the primary. You can't tell us Democrats believe in fair elections either.

The problem is that Mamdani's campaign seemed very authentic to Mamdani himself, meanwhile the Dems love nothing more than the consultant class, a group of people who prefer to water down authenticity (see Tim Walz)
A party that actually wanted to mobilize young and disillusioned voters would be studying Zohran Mamdani’s campaign like the Bible

This is an incredible breakthrough. Type 1 diabetes is such a hard thing to live with. In Sub Saharan Africa the life expectancy of a 10 year old child diagnosed with T1D is just 13 years old because they can't afford the absolute basics in care, how can we build equity into these kinds of advances?

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Pepperballs contain powdered PAVA, an oily, synthetic capsaicin analog. The only reliable way to remove it is with a good surfactant soap and water. 1/

I was a medic at the Santa Ana protests in OC today.

I watched police fire tear gas, flash bangs, & rubber bullets into crowds of men, women, & children.

Other medics and I were clearly marked with red crosses, and the police were targeting us.

One of the most fucked up things I’ve ever seen.

Leave the outer boroughs out of this.
Around D.C., the new going rate is well-known: $5 million for a one-on-one dinner with Trump, but gov-affairs execs have “no clue where the money is eventually going,” one said. Another told me it’s “outer-borough Mafia sh*t.” My new piece is out @newyorker.com www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...
