Sleeping professionally but remaning vigilant. If not in the lab @LabLuthi, then in Casa Pepino.

Our conclusion: there is a signature of IH in sleep but the causes might be found in wake!

Thanks @institutducerveau.bsky.social, @inserm.fr, @aphp.bsky.social and @erc.europa.eu for supporting this work!

Can you learn while sleeping? Does sleep help you solve problems? What is the effect of sleep on brain metabolism?

Sleep is not a homogenous state - just like wake. Asking the role of sleep is as fair as asking the role of wake!

What a pleasure to be interviewed by science writer @davidarobson.bsky.social, what an even greater pleasure to read his visionary narrative in BBC future!
My latest for the BBC explores how the brain's "little blue dot" regulates our sleep, which is inspiring new ways to treat insomnia.

I was especially interested to know that yoga/slow breathing in the evening may reduce micro-awakenings at night, which I now use myself

How the brain's little blue dot regulates your sleep
The locus coeruleus is emerging as a major new area of research interest, with many important functions such as regulating our attention and sleep.

🔵 blue spot alert: Anita Luethi's team reports a dual role of #locuscoeruleus in #sleep in Nature Neuroscience @natureportfolio.bsky.social

1) high LC activity facilitates cortical microarousals
2) low LC activity is required for NREMS-to-REMS transitions
