Snow day. My kids sledded, then their sleds were food trucks, & ice factories, & boats. It’s freezing & they’re totally unbothered. I thought, this is what resilience looks like. Finding joy in the face of the storm. I’m depressed about the state of the world but in moments like this, there’s joy.

#writingcommunity is there any room in tradpub for a truly standalone epic fantasy debut? Cos all the advice about wordcount works fine for series but like Priory = 250k+, Jonathan Strange ~300K, Elantris = 190k+, Tigana ~200k. Must we all write series just to stand a chance of breaking thru? #sff

Art is via portrait works (every element hand drawn by human artists)

Annual PSA about "eligible" stories:

Any story published in 2023 is eligible for awards consideration. That's it. It does not have to be published in a pro-paying or even a paying publication. If it was published anywhere in print or online it is eligible and you can make an eligibility post.

IT'S PUBLICATION DAY!!

I got the idea for The Reformatory TEN YEARS AGO, when I heard that I had a great-uncle, Robert Stephens, buried at the Dozier School for Boys.

The research was sad and took me years. I wanted to give Robert Stephens a different story.

And I added ghosts.

We have one vaccine that can prevent cancer, and most eligible adults in the US still haven’t received it. The HPV vaccine is approved for everyone aged 9-45. Earlier is better. But if you already have one strain of HPV, it can still protect against others.

This Vaccine Protects Against Cancer—but Not Enough Boys Are Getting It
The HPV vaccine can effectively prevent a range of cancers if administered at the right age. But boys still can't access it in most countries.

1. Call your reps. Everyone. As much as possible, try and make it a call. Make the phones ring so much, the office can't operate.
