Journalism: This is by far the most important article I’ve read about the real threats to journalism and free speech at this moment. The threats from the administration, combined with corporate selling out from within, put truth in an ever more precarious position.

In college, most of my philosophy studies focused on epistemology which is how we know what we know. My thesis explored the boundaries of what can be known about life’s purpose (not much). Truth has always been at the center of my thinking. 1/

We’ve entered a new era where the notion of clear “top stories” has broken down. There’s no central place to turn for a shared sense of what matters; everything is scattered and chaotic. Even CNN dot com’s home page is just a fractured, messy information landscape.

Robert Decherd, who controls ~55% of voting power, deserves big recognition for choosing the lesser of 2 evils by turning down Alden Global Capital’s $20/share bid for Hearst’s $16.50, opting for civic duty over millions. At least Hearst has shown it can preserve a functioning metro newsroom. 1/
An overwhelming percentage of DallasNews stockholders endorsed the union with Hearst, which in July entered into a definitive merger agreement with the public parent company of The Dallas Morning News and integrated creative marketing agency Medium Giant.

This is what integrity looks like. IMO, anyone who cares about journalism should take the buyout and look for another company to work with. The people who stay or decide to goto work for Alden don’t practice ethical journalism anymore, they are compromised & just taking paychecks.
