Vancouver based engineer. Fan of whisky, good cocktails, board games, and whatever helps combat this growing sense of existential dread.
Love when the @cityofvancouver.bsky.social misaddresses an invoice to you (that should’ve gone to strata in the first place), and then sends it to collections when you’re never even seen it because it was sent to the wrong address.

Here's a consolidated thread with some of our more recent #SingleStair explorations.

We've been doing these with the aim to influence vancouver zoning and building code deliberations, and because we want to understand what the potential is.

The reporting on the BC Ferries contract award is verging on journalistic malpractice. So many stories calling out the government for not building them in BC or Canada, and just glossing over the fact that there were no bids from Canadian shipyards.

The rollercoaster continues. So was yesterday just the biggest ever dead cat bounce, or an orchestrated pump and dump?
WOW!

After yesterday's +10% move, we are now reaching circuit breakers in the market, with $SPY down almost 6% right now...

Here are the circuit breaker levels:

Level 1: 5074.91, -7%
Level 2: 4747.50, -13%
Level 3: 4365.52, -20%

Do you think we get there?

I’ve been thinking a lot about the opportunity presented by the current geopolitical chaos, and how there seems to be no leadership in Canada, at any level, wanting leverage this moment to make new investments in our society. No drive to take action except hunker down and wait…

Hard no on that. I really hope we’re ready to come out unified and in strong opposition to the tariffs next week. With the continual talk from Trump and co about annexing Canada, I don’t think it’s a joke anymore.

Vancouver city staff are recommending against implementing single stair egress due to unique “Vancouver context”.

@ravikahlon.bsky.social should take this opportunity to abolish the Vancouver building code. Duplicative and a drag on productivity.

Now that Trump has torn up the USMCA, it’s time we stop all the patent and trademark provisions we adopted through it to benefit big us corporate interests.

Let’s ramp up manufacturing of generic pharmaceuticals.
