This interesting read is out from colleagues at Uni of Southampton: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
It saddens me how many AI proposals I receive from hopeful PGR applicants; These can read quite well from a grammar perspective but the fabricated references are one of the key giveaways.

Research into the increased use of Generative AI in Higher Education has largely focused on undergraduate study. While many institutions are grappling with the implications for doctoral level, ther...

I can’t rate this book highly enough. I can’t recall ever reading a writing style like it before. Gifted to me because I’ve enjoyed reading all of @richardosman1.bsky.social books. It’s a very cleverly written murder mystery; superb read.

Having been the nervous supervisor for the last few vivas I’ve sat in, today I had the pleasure of sitting in the examiner’s chair. As an examiner (like the supervisor) you want the student to succeed, with a good open reflective discussion to learn more about their thinking. Just like today! 👏😁

Very interesting read with useful suggestions for future work. The processes of obtaining research funding & supporting our current funding systems are a squeeze on time. I find this stuff inevitably involves working evenings/weekends & may therefore contribute to #inequalities in #research.
Researchers spend approximately 45% of their time on administrative activities related to #grants rather than actual #research. The current #competition in research #funding has significant drawbacks; evidence-based improvements of the funding system are required: www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

What a day! They say things come in 3s…my 3rd post-grad student to complete in these last few weeks: *Dr* Chidinma Uwakaneme just passed her viva with no amendments. Researching the important area of care-experienced young adults’ experiences of independent living & already impacting her workplace 🙌

So delighted for one of my PhD students today - now *Dr* Mary Amos - who had her thesis approved following some post-viva amendments. She’s had quite the journey researching the social participation of older carers, returning to academia post-retirement to pursue a lifelong ambition. Fantastic! 🎉

Day 15 #ResearchAdvent
My favourite place to research is nowhere remarkable... I like my office at work surrounded by my pot plants. Or at home I have a little cupboard-room tucked away in the eaves at the back of the house. Either works well after a brisk walk and sea air.

Nice read here. Would be great to see measures better distinguish between adaptive and maladaptive concerns about falling. This could lead to better understanding as to how to best tailor interventions to individual needs. #fallsprevention
