Day 13 #NovemberWorldbuilders

Elissene morals emphasize universal love and compassion, freedom and free will, and the spiritual equality of all. All forms of creation, from the arts to crafts to having children, are revered as acts of worship in emulation of the divine.

The better question would be where don’t I write😆

Mostly, I work at a small desk, but the advantage of laptops and tablets is you can write almost anywhere. If we take a broad definition of “write”, I’ve even done it in the shower!

Day 12 #NovemberWorldbuilders

Arnen Rauch feels a blood descendant of Torsten and the Mother Incarnate must sit the throne of the Marches. Prince Markus is thus unfit to rule and must be overthrown by any means necessary, regardless of the cost in lives or human suffering.

11/11 #QueerPrompts

“Dusk and Dawn at Laufenden” is all about war, since it follows a young Arlise in command at the final battle of a terrible civil war in the Marches. The battle is a formative experience for her.

Day 11 #NovemberWorldbuilders

Arlise is all about defending the defenseless, selfless aid for those in need, and ensuring the wicked can’t harm others. All of those come with the territory as a Watcher and are firmly rooted in her values as a devout Elissene.

Day 11 #FantasyIndiesNovember

I read fantasy the most, followed by sci-fi, romance, cosmic horror, and academic, historical nonfiction.

Meanwhile, the vast majority of what I write is fantasy, followed closely by romance, sci-fi, and a dash of mystery, horror, and western.

Day 10 #NovemberWorldbuilders

Torsten chose not to finish off the Tyrian Dominion because he felt it was forever broken and its citizens had suffered enough. However, since this meant slavery, blood sacrifice, and carnomancy continued there, his decision remains hotly debated.

Day 10 #FantasyIndiesNovember

Maybe it’s recency bias, but I adore this one from one of the drabbles I had accepted last month:

“After all, what was love without sacrifice?”

Day 9 #NovemberWorldbuilders

Aulus Gallio was the last Pontifex of Nikkali in Old Tyria. He sacrificed thousands to further carnomantic research, ordered the execution of Elissa, and orchestrated a carnomantic ritual that inadvertently caused Mt. Zaphoriz to obliterate Tyria.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned writing a vomiting scene this last week, it’s that there are some…colorful euphemisms, for both the act and the stuff.

Like, technicolor yawn? What?!

Day 8 #NovemberWorldbuilders

Yursen ush Tawnat was a Tarik warrior who made a name for himself as a Watcher battling monsters and ancient magic in the unstable hinterlands between the Marches and Sea of Sands.

An old Yursen will appear in a future tale where he recruits Arlise

Day 7 #FantasyIndiesNovember

Free Friday: Back in the saddle after time off for my extraction, and “Dusk and Dawn at Laufenden” is getting *really* close to the finish line. Looks like I’ll be done next week or the week after!

Day 7 #NovemberWorldbuilders

The Eye of the Mother, an Elissene holy symbol most often associated with the Watchers, is traditionally black.

Mona, the closer of the two moons over Anura, is white like our own Moon.

Day 5 #NovemberWorldbuilders

Qamara, one of the two moons, is a soft lavender hue.

Several! The Elissenes have a fairly standard creation story in which the Mother creates the world ex nihilo. The Tyrians have a similar story centered on their gods, though the details are far more…salacious.

Day 4 #NovemberWorldbuilders

Priestesses of An-Urt wear green dresses and deck themselves in emeralds or jade, as An-Urt is a goddess of the earth, fertility, and agriculture.

11/3 #QueerPrompts

Often, intolerance and discrimination are such elephants in the room they overshadow other kinds of stories you can tell, so I chose to build a world where queer characters are accepted and normalized so I could focus on those other stories about them.

Day 3 #NovemberWorldbuilders

Krache—massive crustaceans who dwell on the ocean floor most of the time—tend to be various shades of orange.
November 3, 2025 at 11:53 PM
Day 2 #NovemberWorldbuilders

This is a small one, but blue is the dominant color of House Wisent, a minor noble family in the Marches who backed Arnen Rauch in his bid for the throne. Their banners feature a white bison on a vivid blue field.

Day 2 #FantasyIndiesNovember

I didn’t start writing for myself (rather than for school) until high school, at which point I found I had a knack for it, and it wasn’t long before I was submitting stories and seeing them published. It’s been about 11 years now!

Day 1 #NovemberWorldbuilders

RED: the petals of the scarlet lotus are a vivid shade of red, and the lotus’s contraceptive and aphrodisiac properties have led to a strong association between red and love, sensuality and romance across many cultures in Anura.
