Fresh from the lab!

In this new paper, PhD student Sven Kerst shows how phenotypes observed in isolated cell models for the leukodystrophy MLC are also observed in intact astrocytes in acute brain slices!

Marjo van der Knaap has just opened the leukodystrophy symposium in Amsterdam, celebrating both 25 years of the ALC as well as Marjo’s farewell from clinical tasks.

We are very excited about the coming 2 days of white matter science!

A new study from the ALC reveals how Eif2b5 mutations in different brain cell types (including oligodendrocytes and astrocytes) contribute to VWM.

Our findings challenge the idea that malfunction of a single cell type drives the disease.

Excited to share our latest paper!

We argue that in MS, the primary immune attack isn’t on myelin or myelinated axons — but on the ion & water homeostasis machinery in astrocyte endfeet.

A short thread on this new perspective
