Half of the reason that people become interested in movies in the first place is sex and dating and everything connected with eroticism on the screen. I felt that not to deal with all of that in its most naked form was to shirk part of what's involved in being a critic. (2001)

The people who think Jurassic Park will eat up Superman box office revenue and that both will eat up Fantastic four revenue need to really think about how that is simply not how movies work. Maybe you lose some money losing IMAX screens but that's just not how movies work in the summer.

Back on the "Siskel & Ebert" teat and their review of SPIES LIKE US is one for the ages. Siskel admits he liked it because they showed it to him in Hawaii, and Ebert asks for permission to be human for a moment, then turns into the Tex Avery wolf talking about Vanessa Angel.

It's wild that in a world where people get paid obscene amounts of money to be destructive assholes, there isn't a job with a modest salary where I can go from town to town, like Eastwood's Man With No Name, and speak about why spoilers are dumb-and more to the point anti-art and anti-intellectual.

basically yeah. my theory is that "knowing things" basically peaked in perceived coolness somewhere around 1970 and has been steadily declining ever since. being a nerd is definitionally about your relationship to trivia but trivia isn't actually the same as expertise
I think a lot of the terror of the modern age can be understood by the fact that the Internet accelerated the development of the worst type of person, the "Anti-Intellectual Nerd."

Wanted to see this in theaters, need to rent it on digital.
Ash might not be one of the best horror movies ever in terms of it's originality and familiar ideas, but it is entertaining enough for my personal enjoyment due to the commitment of it's sci-fi horror aspects, interesting direction and a solid performance by Eiza Gonzalez.
