For the past five years, I’ve been working on a retelling of the story of the Sabine Women. And now it’s finally, finally, coming to your shelves!!

Y'all. Masking is important. I have never stopped masking. I light up when I see a well-masked space, because it means I can have more confidence in my own mask. But using every opportunity to shame people for not masking...is not helping.

I just remembered that as a kid I used to play this game I made up called “poppy field” wherein I had to get from point a to point b without breathing in too much poppy vapor and falling asleep. Inevitably, this meant making little nests on the floor and napping dramatically in them.

Okay, let's talk a bit about my book! I've said a few times that it's about Rome but Not Like That – what do I mean?

The popular idea of ancient Rome is incredibly powerful – ask 100 people to summon up an image of ancient Rome and I bet most could and also that their ideas would be quite similar.

The way I feel about Shy Girl by Haute & Freddy as a song is exactly what I felt in 2021 about Chappel Roan’s Pink Pony Club—“darn, this little artist is so obscure I’m never gonna be able to convince people to play them at dance parties”

Today’s update is I watched all of Dying For Sex, ugly cried about how much I love my friends, and insisted Charlie nap not on a pillow, but on my lap, because I’m incapable of letting him out of my sight. 10/10 show, loved it.

Charlie has named his sourdough starter “Yorgos” because “there’s some kind of organic chemistry in those movies, but it’s not life as I recognize it.”

I am being an absolute household terror about the fact that Charlie is reading my most recent draft. He’s on page forty one. He thinks it’s “really great.” But three pages ago he said, “it’s good!” What is the truth? What changed? Doesn’t he know his the opinion I care for the most?
