In honor of Veterans Day I’d like to remind all our president had his father have a doctor say he had bone spurs to avoid the draft.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

This deal to reopen the government is fucking disgraceful.

Tens of millions will lose their healthcare. Trump will be emboldened.

This is exactly what’s wrong with Democratic Party leadership and why we need more people in Congress who will actually hold the line.

Senate Democrats think this is the appropriate response because they begin every conflict with the assumption they will lose, and then ask “How can we end this as quickly as possible while creating the appearance of having tried to win so the base isn’t mad?”
I truly don’t know how you look at the past week and THEN decide THIS is an appropriate — let alone the right — response.
Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

The President of the United States cannot stay awake for more than an hour. He’s in and out of the hospital more than a patient with cancer. He has no idea who is being pardoned or given Carte Blanche over the use of US taxpayer dollars. We are being led by unelected people. I am angry.

Republicans are running into what's basically a law of nature, namely the public blames the party in charge for difficult economic times. There's really no way around this, and it's likely to get worse for them because their economic policies are laser-focused on ignoring concerns of most Americans.

How are we going to explain to future generations that rich people got so mad at being made fun of on social media that they decided to bring in fascism for everyone.

all those analysis of the huge changes Ds had to make to win back working class voters, Hispanics, etc. was DEAD WRONG. they did not make wholesale changes and yet they won huge. Context, candidates, and intensity. That's it. throw away the pundit playbooks.

The New York Times quickly sending out Douthat to argue that Mamdani’s victory doesn’t really matter is so predictable it borders on self-parody.

Remember, folks: Every time the Right wins an election, it’s an undeniable expression of the will of the people. If a lefty wins, it’s just a blip.

Seems like the GOP is existentially cooked if the election is about Donald Trump but he’s not actually on the ballot, which *looks directly at camera* SUGGESTS A CERTAIN FOCUS FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS

Everyone should pay careful attention to the Maine voter ID ballot measure (Prop 1). It is on track to lose -- thereby proving that the GOP claims that voter ID laws are overwhelmingly popular is a lie. Perhaps now the legacy media will stop repeating that nonsense.

We know that if the tables were flipped, the media would unanimously call this a "red wave" and a huge referendum on the sitting Dem president. Would be the dominant story for months.

Let’s be clear, most EBT users are white. The reason he’s specifically lying about “weaves” and we’ve seen so many AI fakes of Black women ranting about food stamps is they need to make BW the face EBT because they know many Americans don’t care if Black people suffer, and some actually wish for it.
ROB SCHMITT: People are using SNAP benefits to get their nails done, to get their weaves and their hair. This is a really ugly program.

SEN. RON JOHNSON: That program needs to be dramatically reformed.
