'One can only marvel at the stoicism it must have taken on the part of the author to write about these cases... I cannot recall when I last read a work of academic history that made me want to reach into the text and hold the hand of a protagonist. I did on this occasion.' @enghistrev.bsky.social

Right, I think, as I revise the book for which I consulted original material from nine different archives and fifteen museum/gallery collections
This incredibly worrying study suggests Historians are the 2nd most likely occupation to be supplanted by AI.

That’s despite the fact that current AI history output is wildly unreliable, unsourced, hallucinates fale events, sources, and previous historians!!

Yay 😬😩🤪

Calling all #History departments of #Universities

I am re-writing a piece on special collections that are useful when researching #FamilyHistory and #Genealogy

Give your project (past/present) a shout out to ensure they’re included.

What’s amazing is how many of us say pfft to Eurovision yet still have a lingering need to ‘enjoy’ it. Love our British sense of the ridiculous and kitsch.

@histassoc.bsky.social #HAConf25 begins with Alex Walsham presenting a fascinating range of religious texts which, as family heirlooms, acted as vehicles of intergenerational transmission of Christian culture and doctrine.

My great great grandfather Samuel McCartney born Comber, N Ireland in 1825, died Hokitika, NZ 1914. Arrived in NZ in c1880 and ended up as a gold miner in Rimu. Yesterday,we were amazed to find there, a small Heritage Site re its gold rush. Strange feeling to stand where he did over 125 years ago.

Am I allowed to have a niggle @anncleeves.bsky.social ? Thoroughly enjoying The Raging Storm BUT Hoylake and the Wirral were Cheshire before they were Merseyside not because they didn’t want to be associated with Liverpool. Not a snob thing.

This is such an exciting & innovative book involving so many wonderful people. It's particularly apt that it's Open Access as it's one of those rare works that genuinely bridges the worlds of academic and popular history. It deserves the widest possible audience. library.oapen.org/handle/20.50...
