New publication! Gammal et al. sampled benthic macrofauna, solute fluxes and environmental variables at 3 shallow habitats throughout one year.
Results show that the strength of biodiversity-function relationships really depends on which species are present in which habitat and during which season.

How often do we explore temporal context dependece in ecological pattern and process? Not nearly enough!
Coastal ecosystem functions depend on biodiversity—but temporal context shapes how benthic species influence solute fluxes, with effects varying by season, species & site. Timing is key!
