New media artist, programmer, immigrant, PTSD, on the spectrum, Southeast Asianist, and lazy. Let's grab a coffee if you in Stockholm.

I want a new job in something cool and fun and can pay my mortgage. Hire me please! ❤️
Building a web shop to get money to help trans and disabled people in a country that hates them. A country that now wants to outlaw queer people. No idea what to sell on the site though. I'm a shit businessperson. lol. So tired.

Couldn't sleep yesterday. Kept thinking about interoperability of statistical distributions, dataframes, and tensors between programming languages. Damn. I gotta chat with scientist friends soon.

oddly enough cheating leetcode-style tests with ai has made some companies go back to pair program with candidates. tbh this is one of the best outcomes of ai i've seen 😂
November 7, 2025 at 8:11 PM
woohoo! continuously getting rejected by companies because i want only 100% remote. all of them say they are into diversity and inclusiveness. lol.

I miss SEA so much. All night rediscovering Indonesian music. A lot of Javanese. The language transports me. Missing the archipelago a lot as usual. Ending it on this gorgeous Sarawak one that is a mix of different languages.

Interviewed a guy for a position and he was super nervous and flubbed it. I wanted to give him a second chance but my bosses said no. So sad. 😔

Researchers were able to use Shiitake mycelium as computer memory.
Can't wait for them to try using Psilocybe semilanceata mycelium.

"You can usefully think of y=log(x) as assigning to y the order of magnitude of x. The function x=exp(y) is the reverse, turning a magnitude into a value. These definitions will make a mathematician shriek. But much of our computational work relies only on these intuitions."

had tea with a software engineer consultant friend who works with all the famous big tech names. he is a really good engineer. but his managers do not understand that software takes time. so his team ends up cutting corners.

so sad. i think most of the services we rely on basically run on luck.

reading code written by excellent software engineers during a stressful period last year.

misleading variable names, multiple bugs, bad directory and code structure, bad tests... what a mess. understandably.

fast-paced high pressure environments create a lot of risk. we can't keep running on luck.

interviewing job applicants for my employer. discovering many of them use ai that listen to us and generates answers for them to read to us.

sounds cool except the ai misunderstands 100% of the time and candidates are too distracted to notice.

i understand people need jobs. 💔 every day.

At a time when Singapore did not value its own history, Miksic and his colleagues bought artefacts that were going to be trashed from workers at construction sites. He saved Singapore's past and fundamentally changed the way we understood it. Rest well, Pak.

studying old statistics books using old jupyter notebooks is so annoying. ide complains that i'm using old python versions that it no longer supports. python complains about packages being "very outdated". spending .25 of my time working around these issues. well, i wanted to be an archaeologist. 🤷🏻

rejected by 4 companies this week for asking for 100% remote for my disabilities. not sure why i need to be in the office to stare at code but ok.
October 17, 2025 at 8:55 AM
so there is this ai agent integrated into a popular office suite so someone asked it to reveal what were the last few documents our ceo opened and it did. it corrected itself after a few seconds though. lol.

what a nice diagram. thoroughly enjoying this book by mcelreath even if i wish he were more explicit about stuff. using an llm and the accompanying ipynbs to break down and double-check what he says a lot.

i told security if they send out so many fake phishing emails as training, people will not be able to tell real from fake and start deleting real emails. well. guess what. lol.

i suggested bringing in pedagogical experience but doubt the company will. not sure it helps tbh.

this planet crazy.

Early Botanists of Thailand. You have to ask why the first Thai name pops up only in 1923 and then remains the only one for a while. Not an unfamiliar pattern. We know nothing about and too often forget Ali and other locals so instrumental to Wallace's fame.
