I’ve seen people doing this so what the heck. This place is more pleasant than X-itter so fingers crossed it doesn’t devolve to shitposting.

Hey bsky,

I’m Alasdair. I live in Clackmannanshire in Scotland with my wife, two kids and dog. I lead Customer Due Diligence operations at a fintech owned by a major UK bank. I’m a Scottish Labour Party member & activist. My interests here will mainly span politics and (combatting) dirty money.

The IFS, @danneidle.bsky.social and now a chunk of her Northern comrades are all calling for property tax reform - maybe it’s time Reeves started listening to something other than treasury orthodox, bizarrely uneven centrist gradualism & out of date, self-imposed fiscal rules.

This post and the comments below it highlight the stark effect of Trump's tariffs.

They also bring to light another perversity of the setup: sales tax is charged on the tariff, as well as on the underlying price of the item.

So that has the effect of inflating prices for consumers even more...
If you, like me, got turned on to Spier and Mackay menswear by @dieworkwear.bsky.social, tariffs just got real!!!

Great Substack from @iandunt.bsky.social on how right wing forces are trying really hard to stop the renewal of the rule of law in govt. I will admit to having been momentarily sucked in by the torrent of abuse & lies about the AG but as Ian lays out, this should be expected in the Age of Populism.
One man is standing up for the rule of law in Britain. His reward is to be savagely attacked by right wing think tanks, newspapers & politicians. They understand where the battle against populism is taking place. And they've marshalled their forces accordingly.

Completely disagree with Rory Stewart on @restispolitics.bsky.social about the bar for corruption cases against senior UK politicians. I know he’s trying to be alive to populist pushback but this attitude is why grand corruption is rife in UK while day to day barely exists.

Government spending on credit cards has quadrupled in 4yrs to £600m. Over 20,000 have been issued.

All but a limited number (eg for diplomats in unstable locations) are to be canceled in an attempt to immediately get a grip on spending and ensure only those who really need them have them in future.
