I’m so pumped to announce the winner! Better start dusting those trophy shelves, maybe even writing an author bio for the anthology just in case!

✨MANIFEST✨
WE HAVE A WINNER! 🏆

We've whittled the Not Quite Write Prize for Flash Fiction long-longlist to a longlist and the longlist to a shortlist, and we now know who our trophy-winning author is! (Plus the 5 other shortlisted authors who will feature in our 2025 Anthology!)

Well, look who finally showed up...
Someone sneakily snuck a FLESH fiction entry into the #NotQuiteWritePrize (and I'm totally fine with it)

Catching up on some FLESH Fiction reading while I wait for the boys to finish their NQWP judging...

Comments for this 'erotic comedy' piece? "I love pretty much everything about this." FF#429936

It might be yours if your MC REALLY needs to find a girlfriend, but girls REALLY need to steer clear 😬

To the author of NQWP#954912, just wanted to say thanks for the Easter Eggs. Hope you didn't have to do anything too wild to procure them...

Team Amanda represent! 😆

Let's make @quitewriteed.bsky.social regret ever knowing me (or is it too late for that??)

Many thanks to Camsyn Clair for tackling our 2025 briefs with flair. We look forward to confounding Nora with equally bizarre briefs in 2026!

More information about what's in store is coming right up...

For now, please join us in welcoming Nora!

Oof ANOTHER Yes (I told you Batch 8 was magic!) But again... I'm struggling to identify the anti-prompt approach 😱

Here's hoping @quitewriteed.bsky.social or @deankoorey.bsky.social can make a compelling case for these stories, because I would love to showcase them!

ANOTHER NQW Prize Favourite?? It was a slow old start, guys, but it seems like we're on a roll!

I would call this story a guaranteed shortlister, but there's just one problem... I'm struggling to make a case as to how the author addressed the anti-prompt 😱

Ooh that was a very easy “Yes” for the Not Quite Write Prize Longlist, and a contender for Shortlist, if I have my way…

A unique “literal” take on the anti-prompt, plenty of poignant subtext, and an ending that managed to satisfy, despite not answering all our lingering questions.

😘👌🏻

Immediately followed by a Yes!

I've long felt that "Batch 8" contained a certain magic, and that's proven true again this round!

This one could be yours if you opted for an idiomatic usage of the word prompt...

Another Favourite??

Looks like the competition is heating up in the Not Quite Write Prize!

It could be your story if you went with "booth" for the word prompt 👀

Don't think I don't see EXACTLY what you're doing NQWP#408011...

Sneaking in a bit of judging before we record and... I can't recall if this is a first or not, but it's certainly rare...

NQWP#391248 not only gave me goosebumps... it made me cry 😢

My first Favourite for the round!

Heading to NQWHQ this morning to record a very special announcement about next year's Not Quite Write Prize for Flash Fiction format...

Any questions?

Adding to that list, we have NQWP#493851. Such a fun and unique POV that I'd love to delve into further...

(Also appropriately spooky for a lightning-filled Halloween night here on the Central Coast!)
Current frontrunner for "story idea I want to steal" is NQWP#348624, with a disturbing look at humanity's relationship with technology...

Another Yes! A story that was simple and sweet, with a confident "naming emotions" approach to the anti-prompt that delivered emotional resonance.

Ooh! Love to see a creative take on the action prompt. Will be calling this one out on the podcast for sure!

Landing on my third Yes with a story featuring outta-this-world mastery of character voice.

I feel like this would be a fun one to read aloud... here's hoping @QuiteWriteEd and @deankoorey agree!

Did YOU include an errant punctuation mark in your third sentence?

If so, we have a lot in common😆
October 31, 2025 at 2:39 AM
Dear authors who failed to include an actual kiss goodbye in your story and instead included an unfulfilled desire to kiss or otherwise withheld the act of kissing itself...

Yes, it still counts.

Carry on!

It's the end of the world as we know it in NQWP judging land!

2 stories in a row delivering a somewhat bleak outlook on our potential future (or lack thereof...) on Planet Earth 😱
