I just do not relate to this new Google Pixel commercial with everyone having a vanilla ice cream to represent their boring phone…

…because NO QUESTION I would rather have a vanilla soft serve cone over more freaking AI in my phone.

Just watched the new Frankenstein and omg incredible. As a long term lover of the novel, I think it did an incredible job building on the core themes of the story.

100% this. The world I want to live in involves no one murdering podcasters and those podcasters not spreading nasty, anti-democratic, pro-murder rhetoric to their followers.
And this should go without saying, but I guess it doesn't: You can and should deplore political violence, which is both unacceptable on its own AND because it makes us all less safe, but it does not mean that you airbrush a legacy of malice and darkness as a "spirited disagreement." Tell the truth.

I have two professor colleagues who have faced threats and harassment due to the organization Charlie Kirk built, and they were not alone. We can denounce and loathe political violence without hagiography for its victims. This is dangerous nonsense.
"But I envied what he built. A taste for disagreement is a virtue in a democracy. Liberalism could use more of his moxie and fearlessness."
That is Ezra Klein.

Emory announces it is closing its DEI offices.

And, they put the responsibility for announcing it on Leah Ward Sears, former Georgia Supreme Court justice and the new interim president of Emory as of yesterday.

"The standards are clear, and we must act accordingly."

Well, not really, but.

an important reminder: if a trans person tells you they want to try out a new name/pronouns/etc in a space you're responsible for, be it a classroom, a lab group, or social group, that's a huge sign of trust and a pretty big deal.

Patient: A physician, educated for that purpose, licensed to practice medicine, familiar with the empirical research and established best practices.

There's a new TikTok trend where adult women plan their "coursework" for the fall...they basically lay out things they want to learn about and commit to doing it. And we wonder why women are outpacing men in so many sectors...

To solve this problem, there are things individual students need to do & there are things higher education & society need to do. The latter two need to decrease the pressures placed on students' time, increase the value & meaning of what they teach, & emphasize long-term learning not punishments.
