if unputdownable is the ultimate book compliment i'm going to start using unpickupable as the ultimate book insult

the grace of kings is so good SO GOOD

it’s been the number one book on my tbr for ages and I waited until my mood was exactly right for this type of thing. and it’s paying off BIG TIME

tell me I did NOT see someone recommend blood over bright haven as a slow burn enemies to lovers romance

starting the grace of kings today! I’m very excited for this series

I also read this super weird fast-paced sci-fi book! it was like a movie. it’s set in future south africa and has robots, demigods, and too much to explain in one post lol. it was quick and fun!

reread of the first two books is done 😎 I had so much fun and will probably keep a slow reread of the rest of the series going through the year. maybe this time I won’t get too scared and will actually read cryoburn
well i started a vorkosigan reread

putting myself on a ban from trying new books for a bit. rereads of faves only, it’s safer that way

do you ever DNF three books in a row and start to wonder if you’re the problem
January 28, 2025 at 12:08 AM
update I put this one down too 😭 I might come back to it later, but it was getting too instalovey (I have a lower tolerance for this than average so you may not be bothered at all) and some of the dialogue was making me frown from being annoyed at it
started reading the blighted stars by megan e o’keefe and so far this is so so so good

read 25% of king’s dragon and it’s not bad at all, but I’m not feeling in love with it like I want to be. setting it aside for now and looking for something to get obsessed with instead
January 25, 2025 at 3:56 PM
rip 🙏

(they’re not dead I am just returning them unread to the library)

king’s dragon is good enough to keep reading it!

so far I’d say I like it, not love it, but there’s some interesting stuff happening so I want to see where it will go
truly don’t know what to read next and I have 0 books in progress. going to try out a few and see if I get interested enough to keep going.

first book to try is king’s dragon by kate elliott 👀 it’s the first in a series so fingers crossed I like it

also just finished the favorites, which felt like reading a really long gossipy article about figure skating while also thinking about wuthering heights
(in a fun way, I think)

this was really good!! the chapters felt almost like essays about different aspects of white feminism and how they harm women of color. the author combines historical context and modern day examples nicely to explain her main points. highly recommend to anyone but especially to other white women!

reading update:

I had to pause reading nuclear war: a scenario due to the General State of This Week Causing Anxiety

as my new nonfiction read I picked up white tears/brown scars by ruby hamad

and for a little fantasy break I started reading the favorites by layne fargo

navola mini review

🤩 the world and plot were complex and very political, the pacing kept me turning the pages (it escalated as the book went on)

🙂 the characters were messy and complicated

😬 it was a little crass for my taste, and it was right at the limit of my violence tolerance

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
