So, today I'm announcing a new book project... and doing a call for papers: crpgbook.wordpress.com/2025/10/31/t...

It's an anthology of video game history outside the usual US perspective - an accessible & exciting panorama of different realities - and I'll pay 300 USD per article.

Please share :)
The Video Game History Expansion Pack – Pitch your story
Today I’m putting my money where my mouth is and launching a new project — a book focused on game history outside of the usual North American perspectives.

The article echoes what I’ve seen and heard from peers: AI makes it easy to produce slick but shallow work that looks plausible on the surface, yet riddled with errors or bad assumptions underneath.

Your coworkers end up having to fix or redo it.

It’s workslop, and it’s spreading fast.

A key difference here is that while either can be incorrect, the structure of Wikipedia *creates context* and the structure of LLMs *destroys context*

Wikipedia has linked sources and an edit history showing where information came from and who added it when

An LLM just generates text
Some of the anti-AI stuff feels a bit like when people would say "don't use Wikipedia as a source." It's just like anything else, a piece of information that you weigh against multiple sources and your own understanding of its likely failure modes

Just heard about the rebrand of Hour of Code as Hour of AI.

Code isn't just an intermediate step between intentions and application. It's a notation for thought, learning, and expression. For scientists, artists, and scholars, code is powerful. computinged.wordpress.com/2024/08/05/a...
For the reasons liberal arts and sciences majors should learn to program, AI’s not really that big a deal
“It’s the end of Computer Programming as We Know It” wrote Farad Manjoo in the NYTimes last June. Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, said earlier this year that programming is no longer important: “It is…

We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers.

The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.
