Sliced my finger with a bread knife and need stitches. Refused by both Urgent Cares because they are full for today and I don’t have an appointment. This is fine.

It’s getting so bad I can’t breathe. But hey, if we make it through I only have 20 years before I can retire.

Apparently it’s #CTDappreciationDay so here’s an old pic from 25 years(!) ago on Lake Tanganyika as part of the #NyanzaProject. Fantastic experience that summer. I miss fieldwork more than I can adequately express.

I can’t fathom the amount of damage that’s being afflicted right now.
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

I thought I had escaped the Orange one today, until they insisted on interrupting the National Championship game. 🤬

Sometimes disassociating isn’t enough. This is one of those weeks. Hot baths and long cat cuddle sessions are in my future (but not at the same time).

By the way, the writing retreat was awesome. Highly recommend spending time in the mountains with fascinating new friends and being empowered to write. I even read aloud at a local book store. Stretching my comfort zone felt amazing.

Looking forward to a writing retreat in the mountains to kick off the new year and thankful my partner can hold down the (pet) fort in my absence.
Cosmological wonder is at the root of all sacred wisdom. Maybe that’s how return home again to this world, with humility and open minds?

Had a rare experience last night of online shopping only to realize I already had unused similar items I could repurpose and ended up not buying the thing.

Needed to read this today.
Writers: yes, you are still a "real" writer if you
- have never published anything
- have no readers
- didn't write anything this month
- didn't write anything this year
- can't articulate words anymore
- can only float and mournfully wail
- were murdered ten years ago on this very spot

During Trump’s last term, he made over 30,000 false or misleading claims. It’s always important to verify facts. For instance, he once stated that ‘raking the forest’ could help prevent forest fires.

Thoroughly enjoyed seeing Six at the National last night. Our waiter expressed fear at what the future might bring for their restaurant which relies heavily on the federal employees and the theater district crowd.

Made deviled eggs and roasted veggies this morning for the big meal. Working on hour 5 of food coma.

What is with all the food recalls lately? Was there a reduction in inspections? Changes in safety protocols? Pure greed or incompetence?
