the whole show can get wild but this is another level i didn’t know existed
The question was “if your husband died while cheating on you, what would do with his ashes?” I said “make his mistress eat the ashes.” my friend thought I was crazy.

“finally seriously thinking about what only humans can do” is a great way to describe what LLMs have sparked. i’ve found myself compelled to turn away from software, which i’ve been immersed in my entire life, and toward physical media. software is hurting me in a way that metal and pottery can’t

I worked with someone who scrapbooked regularly and I always wondered how they had so many scraps to put in one book. Let alone several of them. And when are they looking at them? Storing them???? Is there a closet just for the scrapbooks
Whereas scrapbooking absolutely collapsed due to oversaturation (MLMs, for god's sake!) and the Big Honkin' Thing Problem: How many 16" x 24" x 3" albums can you realistically fit in your home or give away. A craft built on scraps suddenly became a multi-thousand-dollar spendathon.

I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

Using AI to summarize information is the one of the primary ways we’re being encouraged to use it at work, so that’s going about as well as you’d think *shakes head vigorously*
Agree. I strongly believe that using AI to summarize information is a strong form of outsourcing your thinking.

Summarization is crystallizing your thoughts, and -- at least for topics you are still trying to learn -- you can't afford to let an LLM do that in your stead.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

LLMs continue to be a fascinating collision of industry-credentialed users (not John, the other person - are they all men?) and involuntary training data set contributors (artists and creators, broadly).
Wow 80% bad-faith responses, and people lecturing the creator of Flask here and the creator of Django/datasette in the comments on why AI is useless for software engineering...
Is this platform still massively against AI or has it moved more towards acceptance?
