Wow hello! A quick intro about me:

I was radicalized in climate movement (mostly grassroots direct action anti-oil pipeline organizing in Great Lakes) & civic journalism in Chicago. Trying to apply that analysis and skillset to ongoing COVID pandemic.

NEW: High-quality masks are vital in the present & future of the American West. They don't just protect us from COVID, they help protect us from other pathogens, toxic dust, wildfire smoke, and more 😷

Many medical supplies are manufactured outside of the US. I would buy additional KN95, N95 and KF94 masks now, as well as any medical supplies you regularly rely on. Even basics like bandages, Aquaphor, medicated lotion and pimple patches. Order that stuff asap.

I’m writing about #maskbans & air pollution in US West for @thesicktimes.bsky.social. Looking for folks who can speak to that intersection: people w/ #LongCOVID and COVID-conscious people also impacted by air pollution (inversion, Valley Fever, wildfires, etc). Reach out to amelia.diehl at gmail.

Defend the liberty of a stranger as you would defend your own, or that of a loved one, because that is what's actually on the table—whether we are a society that will sit still as our neighbors are snatched in the night, and disappeared into darkness, or a society that will fight for each other.

It’s terrifying to be in Elon Musk’s crosshairs. I’ve spent the last 48 hours dealing with the aftermath of these tweets. Everything he has said about me and Troublemakers is an outright lie.

The right to protest is at the heart of American democracy. Join a #TeslaTakedown protest. ✊❤️
Musk doesn't get how nonviolent protest works. Why are we Troublemakers? Because as Rep. John Lewis, RIP, knew: in hard times, good trouble is ESSENTIAL to all that we love.

When the world is at risk, when democracy is at risk, we're either troublemakers—or collaborators.

So: who's a Troublemaker?

Utah just tried to pass a #maskban, as part of a nationwide wave to repress Palestinian resistance & criminalize disability.

1 in 12 Utahns have Long COVID & the state has some of the worst air quality in the country. Read about what happened:

I wrote about Utah's attempt to pass a mask ban - and how Utahns rose up against it.

This repressive bill would have had drastic consequences for Utahns protecting themselves from COVID, free speech -- and also the state's uniquely poor air quality.

this denial of empathy/shared fate is politically useful. consider how “the end of the pandemic” was produced—a combination of cutting public programs and resources and “you do you” propaganda that had people acting like other people masking somehow hurt them
one curious feature of our particular dismal political era: some people have gotten so addicted to the particular vice signaling around empathy / concern for other people that they seem to see evidence that something will benefit others as evidence that it will harm them
Anyway, this is about as gross and anti-social a statement from an antivaxxer as you'll find, but also probably pretty par for the course

Some truly awful amendments are proposed that would harm Utah's public health.

The meeting starts at 2pm MT.

the right seized on a small group of people they thought couldn’t fight back, who they could scapegoat for any and everything, and then likened those people’s freedom to the collapse of the nation—and those in power who said they opposed such things failed to stop them
I think that we should be talking about what Trump is trying to do to trans people in the context of the Nuremberg laws.
