Today marks the 10th anniversary of Lee Kuan Yew's passing. He was Singapore's founding Prime Minister.

I think it is worth listening to his views, in his own words and those of his friends and admirers: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaMp...

Too often, people say things like "Place X could have been like Singapore" or "Place X could've been the Singapore of the region."

But these same people invariably go on to say the most ignorant or hateful things.

Enforced disappearances, systematic use of torture (including sexual violence against male detainees), prolonged detentions of civilians, and "kill not capture" policy enacted against soldiers.

These are crimes against humanity. These are the actions of Russian troops.

Headteacher Katharine Birbalsingh tweeting "ethnics can not be English". Few white headteacher would make sweeping racially exclusive comments.

Her belief every single ethnic minority person identifies as "British not English" is a sincere misperception, but educators could look at the evidence!

I'm neither English nor British, so I don't get a say in defining these terms. However, as a Singaporean, I'd like to remind my friends engaging in this debate that implementing policies that foster intercommunal harmony is more important than debating nonmenclature.

there is a growing list of programs for the disabled they've been attacking and cutting. Of the many things to be alarmed about, this is one of the most alarming. Trump is a big eugenics believer and I can see him looking to shove the disabled aside and out of sight.

Indeed. No one ever thought that this has to be spelt out quite this plainly. But in an age where misinformation and disinformation run rampant, it is only right that Grieve and others state this position clearly.
Quite right of course. No lawyer does their client any good if they give “favourable” but inaccurate advice which exposes the client to legal problems later

Everyone knows the impending Election had some impact on the Budget. However, given that inflation is (as a result of everything else being) imported into Singapore, the Gov has little choice but to provide targeted relief, particularly to the middle class, young families, and senior citizens.

Something I’ve been working on in my hobby time this year: “Academia: the board game”. You play until one player is promoted to emeritus, or all players burn out and leave academia. Or you can see who survives 4 terms (sorry, ‘productivity cycles’) and tally victory points on your career plan.

Grimes was completely correct to object to her son being put on the spot in that manner.

Good for Grimes. Children are not props.

This is the key and what GOP/Trump have done. "Woke" was not an issue or much of a concern until they decided to make it that way. And "Critical Race Theory" before that. They do it ALL THE TIME and we do not. No idea why.
If you're a Democratic lawmaker and you're following opinion-based polls that tell you the public supports the Trump administration, that literally makes you a follower, not a leader.

We need leaders willing to SHAPE public opinion.

People who say don't take this seriously are wrong. A man who is sending 30k migrants to Guantanamo, and many more to Salvadorian prisons is MORE than willing to find a place to 'move' Palestinians, even if every Arab state won't.

He and his developer pals stand to make BILLIONS. He's serious.
Trump: "I would own this [Gaza]."
Brett Baeir: "Would the Palestinians have a right to return [to Gaza]?"
Trump: "No, they wouldn't."

Trump plans on committing multiple, and unprecedented, war crimes.

Many have correctly noted that forced transfer/deportation is a war crime & crime against humanity.
On “voluntariness,” it bears emphasizing that the forced nature of transfer can be established where the perpetrators take advantage of a coercive environment that precludes genuine choice.
