Adopting this warmed-over BTI perspective is kind of goofy at any time, but doing it today, in the year of our lord 2025 -- while clean energy represents the *only* way to accelerate economic growth without breaking the bank -- is so sad. Not just hackery but moldy, past-its-expiration-date hackery.
I actually think the *core* of Democrats’ unwise leftward move was on climate because it creates direct tensions with a classic kitchen table pitch.

All the other stuff (crime, immigration, guns, gender) matters too but the post-2012 pivot off of “all of the above” energy is the most important.
“Dems moved too far left” means BLM and trans equality—and for some, taking COVID seriously—and many Dem politicians really do support those things.

There’s tons of noise and euphemism, but that’s the core argument.

And it is a misguided one, since Dems won the election after that move, in 2020.

Must tune in to @stevevladeck.bsky.social in this instance and truly, all the time, to understand — and be real about — where SCOTUS is going. If you aren’t following One First yet, you need to.
#ICYMI, I joined @kateshaw.bsky.social and @williambaude.bsky.social for (another) @nytopinion.nytimes.com roundtable on #SCOTUS — as the Roberts Court marks its twentieth anniversary and with a momentous new term set to begin next Monday.

Certiorari "before judgment" is how #SCOTUS takes up a full appeal *before* the intermediate federal courts have heard it.

It used to be exceedingly rare. For instance, there wasn't a *single* grant of such expedited review b/w August 2004 & February 2019.

This is the *23rd* such grant since then.
#BREAKING: Over dissents from Justices Sotomayor, Kagan & Jackson, #SCOTUS grants a stay in the Slaughter case (allowing President Trump to remove the last Dem member of the FTC), *and* grants certiorari "before judgment" to decide whether to formally overrule its 1935 ruling in Humphrey's Executor.

There’s a lot to worry about right now. The quiet part is a U.S. oil & gas renaissance. As extreme weather rocks the country, it’s time to invest in brass tacks planning, deep organizing, and the essential state and local fights to achieve clean energy transition … in time.

Sing it from the rooftops: congestion pricing in NYC is an unambiguous triumph. It is succeeding beyond its backers wildest aspirations & none of the second-order effects people worried about have come to pass.

A federal court’s jurisdiction does *not* stop at the water’s edge. The question is whether the *defendants* are subject to the court order, not *where* the conduct being challenged takes place.

Were it otherwise, the government could act lawlessly overseas and courts would be powerless to stop it.

Conservatives (CDU/CSU) and Social Democrats (SPD) agreed in principle with the Green Party on plans for a massive increase in state borrowing for infrastructure and military.
