Can't wait to write my latest book exclusively with AI, so I can focus on the part of the process that all authors truly love: self-promotion.

Maybe nobody in the great big world cares about this.
But the public libraries in tiny Jefferson County in Northern Appalachia were in danger of losing their tax funding thanks to right-wing book banners. And we won. The library's funding is safe!!!!!

Apparently it's International Wombat Day, so I suppose I should plug my wombat book. Yes, he's wearing a bow tie. He's also phosphorescent...and immortal.

This week marks the 5-year anniversary of the SPONTANEOUS movie. Due to it being, um, 2020, it didn't get the theatrical run it deserved, but it's built up a lovely following since and maintains its 96% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I only wrote the book, but I'm still very proud of the film.

Horrifying
Trump: "The ones that are run by radical left Democrats -- what they've done to San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles. They're very unsafe places & we're gonna straighten them out one by one. This is gonna be a major part for some people in this room. That's a war too. It's war from within"

This is a fucking crisis.
Trump to top military officials: "I told Pete, we should use some of these dangerous cities as training grounds for our military. National Guard, but our military. Because we're going into Chicago very soon. That's a big city with an incompetent governor. Stupid governor."

So many authors have already shared this, but it's a fantastic distillation of how the industry works for those who don't know.
I spent the summer reporting this essay on why it seems harder than ever to sell a book right now—especially if it isn't a debut and comes with the dreaded "sales track." I'm grateful to the writers, agents, editors, publishers & experts who spoke to me for this piece: thewalrus.ca/the-publishi...

Friendly reminder that I block people who post some variant of "it won't matter because nothing matters" on sight. Not even because they're wrong, but because I find this habit of saying the most tedious and predictable thing as if that makes you an edgy truth teller incredibly grating.

I'm sorry but you can't just call a movie STEVE. Especially one with Cillian Murphy starring in it.

Found this old Landlord Certificate from 1999. Monthly rent in Colchester was $234. Minimum wage was $5.15/hour, so someone could rent an apartment with a week of work at minimum wage. Wild. I don’t know what Colchester was like then, but it’s very nice now.

While it’s sad that people have come to expect censorship in states like Florida, it’s also worrying that some people feel so confident that it could never happen in their state.

It can happen anywhere. Pay attention and speak out.
Yes, books have been challenged and banned in Massachusetts! Here is a list: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

For decades I went through life without knowing anyone (besides my immediate family) that had the same last name as me. Now there's even a term...sigh...
trump’s numbers are tanking and there is a palpable desire in the electorate for a real alternative and yet the only money in democratic politics is for doing starmerism

The mixture of gun culture and gaming/meme culture that's been brewing for fifteen years now is really coming home to roost. The preteens raised on this shit are now grown adults with severely warped views of the world and the capability and encouragement to act on their obsessions and delusions.

getting fired from your job because some dipshit student who missed their calling in the Stasi filmed you talking about gender in a class about gender
I agree but this case is even worse: it appears that the detailed course description* explicitly mentions that it will explore how gender and sexuality are depicted in YA literature.

*As the reddit poster mentions, there's some confusion and possible misreporting of which course she's teaching.

there simply isn't enough coverage of the fact that, as a matter of ideology and public policy, trump and his administration think domestic violence is good
Trump minimizes domestic abuse during a talk at the Museum of the Bible: "Things that take place in the home, they call crime ... If a man has a little fight with the wife, they say this was a crime, see?"

First reactions are trickling in for YOU ARE NOW OLD ENOUGH TO HEAR THIS. And I'm proud to announce that it's a Junior Library Guild Selection!

It's always an honor to be featured in the JLG boxes. This means a lot more kids will find the book in a lot more libraries. In other words: great news!

Was just wondering what the heck the happened to the author DAN BROWN. So went on Wikipedia and saw that he has a new book out…tomorrow!I’m actually surprised he’s not popular again in our stupid “everything is a conspiracy” political moment.

Found a file from 2001 where I jotted down ideas for sitcoms:

THE WHITES: starring Betty White and Barry White as a married couple

OH, YOU!: Two gay young men become the most popular pledges for a football fraternity at Ohio University and change hearts and minds.

Title begets concept I guess...
