lmao fuck OFFFFFF. Shapiro was so unpleasant that he had the VP nom in hand, met with Harris once, and lost it. He's super popular here and I'm glad because PA is one step away from going full MAGA but he sucks! He's popular because he fixed a highway!

If true, it validates the GOP strategy: refuse to negotiate; send the House on vacation for 7 weeks; illegally starve SNAP recipients; & fire federal workers. And it puts blame for the shutdown on Dems, because it shows the GOP was right when they said Dems could unilaterally end it. Total disaster.

My read of it (with very incomplete information) is scoring more political points would have required destroying Thanksgiving travel and at least 10 Dem Senators don’t have the stomach for that.

This is very confusing, but in short:
1) For the most part working families are receiving food stamps in Democratic states, but not Republican states.
2) Trump is not just trying everything possible to stop food stamps in general, they are trying to prevent Democratic states from helping their own.

Breaking News: The Trump administration told states to undo any steps to provide full food stamp benefits to low-income families, threatening financial penalties if the states do not comply. It was unclear how that would affect the program.

i dont want to pile on this person, and obviously pitchfork can be deeply annoying, but this is embarrassing as hell. If you want to be a public figure or artist you gotta learn how to take criticism. shit, even if you don't wanna do those things you have to. Work on your shit. You're not infallible
A few months ago Indigo De Souza called Pitchfork “internet bullies” over a 6.6 review of her new album and asked her fans to tell the publication it was “whack”: “why not ONLY write reviews about art you LIKE?”
Last night she wore a shirt featuring the review onstage at Pitchfork Music Festival.

been doing some light reading about the aftermath of the korean dictatorship and I think it's really important that we repeat this to ourselves, to our friends, to our neighbors, to our politicians
Nuremburg trials is the moderate position
He said that the agents would throw food at them to eat. The agents threatened to withhold food for a week and to beat him up if he didn't sign deportation papers. He said he saw others refuse and get beaten/receive no food. He signed because he was afraid.

i really wanna read patti smith's memoirs but i cant decide between reading them or listening to the audio. I would love to hear her read them but I think her poetic prose style probably would work best reading on the page for me. But I keep going back and forth...and so havent read them lol

Awhile back I was talking about audio drama/fiction podcasts and how much they used to mean to me. This show was one of the first to really get me and make me feel seen. This epilogue hit me big time yesterday. If you haven't, I highly recommend the show.
10 years ago today, the first episode of The Bright Sessions came out.

Black American soldiers literally dug these WWII graves. Traumatic. To acknowledge that fact at a cemetery they helped construct is something the Heritage Foundation cannot accept. As Veterans Day approaches, never forget that this country both compels and disrespects Black military service. Always.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️
