CNN is reporting that @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social referred to a voter he was meeting as “my man” at a campaign event today, even though the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution has made it illegal to own human beings since 1865 and remains the law in states including New York

The disconnect between Texas Democrats fleeing to Illinois and Senate Democrats continuing to vote for Republican nominees is stark.
The central problem with the "this is really scary stuff" argument is federal elected Ds not acting like it

It's why the Democratic Party polls so poorly at the moment
Larry Summers: "This is way beyond anything Nixon ever did ... this is the stuff of democracies giving way to authoritarianism. Firing statisticians goes with threatening the heads of newspapers, launching assaults on universities, launching assaults on law firms. This is really scary stuff."

Chicago is a progressive city, but it came very close to electing a MAGA-adjacent candidate with Paul Vallas a few years ago. And it wasn’t that long ago that we had a GOP Governor.

If we allow our society to be completely covered in surveillance cameras, things like this could be our future.

Drivers are now legitimately the leading cause of violent death in the US.

The primary difference between other murders, and murders/homicides committed by drivers with cars, is, it's legal for drivers to kill people with cars.

Kind of have to wonder how many killers didn't just change weapons.
This should be a much bigger story. Murder has *plunged* across the country—so much so that the U.S. may see the lowest murder rate *ever recorded.* That this is even possible after the 2020 murder spike is truly amazing.
Through May, Baltimore has recorded 54 homicides, the fewest through the first 5 months of a year on record. The previous low: 65 homicides, in 1977.
At this point in 2022, just three years ago, there had been 138 killings, and in 2017 there had been 146 people killed.

So Chicago fam, as I see it we need to pressure each and every one of our state house reps to sponsor this bill or negotiate with their Senator counterparts on a compromise.

Where is Ann Williams?

Where is Hoan Huynh?

Where is Kam “I’m so great on transit” Buckner?

It was very public in the last few days that Uber and DoorDash were working to kill the bill we had.

Someone should ask Speaker Welch about this.

Disabled people who don't drive due to disability and/or poverty and need to use public transit exist.
California NIMBYs oppose a bill that legalizes denser housing near transit because it “discriminates against disabled people”… I wish I was making this up

if you live in California, call or email your state senator in support of SB79 because building more housing near transit is good, actually

The one Chicago thing I will never accept is that this city is called "windy" because of politics and the fact it is insanely windy is pure coincidence

Now that there's a Chicago pope maybe the city can get out of that 75-year parking meter lease.

It's rather illustrative of the city's disfunction that the outdoor dining spot in the foreground required all kinds of bureaucratic hoops, outreach and politicking while the trailer in the background was left curbside with zero community input, design requirements or public process whatsoever.
