Looking to follow all things research support and scholarly publishing in higher education so that I don't need to subscribe to a thousand newsletters.
This will be one to watch. At unimelb we made the decision to fund Verfassungsblog because it was important to our Law academics. There needs to be space for all types of scholarly works. Perhaps DOAJ could explore more tags to differentiate publishing venues.

"The RLF, which is more budget-friendly to an author’s grant or funder than a traditional APC, helps subsidize publishing services" - isn't that what the subscription charge is for? It pays for the cost of publishing paywalled content!
WOW - how do these people lie straight in bed at night? IEEE is charging a 'Repository License Fee' (or should that be 'FEEE'?)

"The RLF price is $1,275 for periodical articles and $400 for conference articles and is applicable only to AMs and not to VORs."

Nothing but love for a values driven collection development and management policy. It is wonderful to hear that teaching focused universities are also investing in open infrastructures. Great spotlight @jisc.bsky.social !
Nice article from @jisc.bsky.social and Edge Hill U library about why their guiding principles are evolving to include alignment with mission, strategy, values, and teaching focus. Money also a factor obvs. They are investing in @openbookcollective.bsky.social and OtF: www.jisc.ac.uk/blog/next-ge...

A good reminder to start the new year with
"The human brain is not designed for this kind of non–stop engagement," neurologist Cytowic writes. "We need moments of pause not only to regain composure but also to let our brains function at their best."
How to Embrace Silence
Silence is an essential nutrient in an increasingly noisy world, writes Richard Cytowic.

Interesting letter noting that three major neurosurgery journals are flipping to open access next year. It'd be an interesting case study to look at the impact of journal flips on various disciplines. #OpenAccess #ScholarlyPublishing journals.lww.com/neurosurgery...

My favourite read last week. I've been talking to everyone I can about it. Still processing the mix of passion and anger it inspired. #libraries #DigitalPreservation
The Vanishing Culture report arrives today at a critical moment: While Internet Archive recovers from a cyberattack, it’s a reminder of how fragile our access to knowledge can be. Preserving culture & history requires resilience—and collective action.
