A global campaign to cut military spending, reframe security, and invest in humanity.
We’re back at #COP30 today, this time in the blue zone where specific regulations apply. No country names, currencies or conflicts can be named, accreditation is required to enter the premises, and any protest or action from civil society has to be approved. Securitisation at its max!

#COP30 has officially started, heavily guarded by tanks and military personel. We will report from inside the COP negotiations, as well as from the People‘s Summit and the Inidigenous Caucus, where security is understood to mean climate justice, and access to land for those who are its guardians!

In wars, human lives are lost and people suffer — but our planet does too.
On todays International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict, we want to highlight an article by @wilpf.bsky.social on the ecocide of Palestine and underline their conclusion:

According to Haaretz (zurl.co/luPJu ) , Germany is purchasing Israeli-made Spike anti-tank missiles in a €2 billion deal, even as public services face budget cuts.

Germany’s latest arms purchase raises serious concerns about spending priorities.

The fight for climate justice is a fight against militarism. 🌍
Every dollar spent on weapons is a dollar taken from our planet, our people, our future.
Let’s reimagine security — one built on peace, care, and climate action.

“We can’t fix climate finance without fixing the global financial system.”
Gaya Sriskanthan calls out the holes in the bucket — debt, tax, and trade injustices — and reminds us what’s really possible if we redirected just 10% of military spending.

No peace without demilitarization.

No future without climate action.

Last night, Israeli military stopped the Freedom Flotilla. The costs of this operation, whose sole purpose was to continue the genocide in Gaza, shows the priorities of the Israeli government and of the world.

This is a Patriot Anti-Air System. A single launcher costs $1 Billion and each missile costs $4 Million. Since 1976, 1106 of these launchers have been built, and over 10.000 missiles have been produced.

According to UN data from their recent report “The Security We Need”, a 12-minute flight of an F-35 jet fighter produces as much CO₂ emissions as an average petrol car does in an entire year.

Of course military spending is not a good way to spend the money of tax payers. But at least it creates jobs, right? Well, yes, but way less than investments in other, more useful areas, as the recent UN study highlights:
September 15, 2025 at 12:41 PM
The UN Report on increasing global military spending points out the problem: $2.7 Trillion, the same as the GDP of all countries in Africa, are being spent on tanks, war planes, missiles, guns etc in 2024 alone.

There is always money when it comes to weapons.
But when it comes to overcome crises or people’s well-being, education, health care, or housing, suddenly we hear the word “austerity.”

It is time to ask: what does real security mean? Missiles and tanks, or dignity and safety for all?

Labour’s “defense-led growth” isn’t about protecting Ukrainians. It’s about subsidizing BAE Systems & friends. A war economy doesn’t build security; it builds dependence on permanent conflict.
Keir Starmer’s plan for UK growth – the Ukraine war
The Labour government’s increase in military spending and its extraordinary new agreement with Ukraine are platforms for the UK arms industry

Let us remember not only the horror but also the hope: the global movements that rose from the ashes, the survivors who turned grief into activism, and the possibility of building a world free from nuclear weapons.

At a time when nuclear threats once again loom over global politics and billions are still poured into weapons of mass destruction, Hiroshima remains a warning and a demand. A demand for disarmament and justice. For a world where no city, no people, ever suffer such devastation again.
