"Socialism in one City"

I always said I wished I had been alive during the interwar period. But are we really going to do the Fascists vs Communists thing again? I feel like that has been played out. And gosh, last time around it didn't work out well for either side.

This non-reporting policy worked with Covid, right?

Given how cavalier Republicans are about the rights enshrined in the constitution these days, soon they will recognize that the 2nd amendment doesn’t actually confer an unrestricted right to bear arms, right?

Somebody needs to disappear Stephen Miller to a Salvadoran prison. Just for a little while.

So liberation day now amounts to trillions of dollars of lost wealth, the global dumping of US gov’t debt, higher interest rates on US govt borrowing, a weaker dollar, and a 150% tariffs on Chinese-made toys? I feel so free.

His talk starts at the 12:35 mark

I double dog dare you to retaliate!! If you do I’ll tax myself twice as heavily!!! That’ll teach you!

A need-to-watch speech by Miran for IPE peeps, especially those working on the global role of the dollar.

This is how academic journals work.

I’ll say it, as no one else has. A trade deficit with every country in the world is a macroeconomic imbalance (savings<investment) that will not be corrected by using tariffs to change relative prices. This is especially true when domestic substitutes do not exist.

Hi friends. I’m searching for opportunities to experience academia in other spaces. Probably more on a temporary than a permanent basis. Short term or long. I would need salary.

And just the other day we thought that briefing Musk on the China war plans was the big breach in national security.

When Trump promised lower prices on day one, no one realized he was talking about STOCK prices.

Irony is MAGA buying Teslas to own the libs.

I’m well past the window and was (mostly) kidding. It sounds very interesting though.

Can I apply?

Its almost as if American political parties hold polar opposite positions on climate change and the carbon economy www.nytimes.com/2025/03/10/c...
U.S. Energy Secretary Pledges to Reverse Focus on Climate Change
To applause from oil and gas executives, Chris Wright said natural gas was preferable to renewable energy and climate change was a “side effect of building the modern world.”

I stand with him.

Guess I’m not the only one.

T/F Paddles? Could you be any more performative in the effort to reclaim our democracy?
I see a lot of Dem leaders speaking to the media. When do they plan to speak to the voters? We are waiting for someone to do something.

Putin isn’t Hitler. But is Trump Austria and wants full out Anschluss or is he Britain and this is just appeasement?

The problem is that this isn’t really what Democrats want. Any more than Evangelical Christians just want to be left alone to pray.
The Democrats should reframe issues:

We want you to be able to do anything you want so long as you do not harm other people.

In order to defend your right to personal freedom, we need to defend everyone's right to personal freedom.

In one month Trump managed to overturn a century of US foreign policy and made the US a Russian stooge. www.themoscowtimes.com/2025/03/02/k...

The Kremlin said in remarks aired Sunday that the United States' sudden shift in foreign policy "largely aligns" with its own position.

The US under Trump is a petro state. As such, the US will align with the other largest petro states (Russia and Saudi Arabia). Canada is of interest because it holds significant oil and gas reserves. Europe is disliked because it’s green. Also, “Double Dutch Disease is deadly to manufacturing
