My voice must have risen because it's Dahlia who answers me. "And how do you propose you stop this necromancer? Now that he's sunk his teeth in, he's sure to dedicate himself to the goal of using his true magic. It's only your father's own weakness in the area that stopped him from diving deeper into it." I whip my head towards her. "That's a lie!" She shakes her head, sadly. "I'm sorry, but it's not. A necromancer, once tasting that power, always strives for more, and your father was no exception. When the Council took him, he had assembled quite a collection of necromancy instructions from the spirit he'd contacted in the past, and from the notes he had made, he had failed to replicate them, but not for lack of trying. It was for his own protection--as well as the town's--that we offered the punishments. Strip him of his power, and the temptation wouldn't arise again. Keep him locked up, and he would be unable to try spells he wasn't equipped to perform. Exile him and remove his access to the rift. We can offer two of the three for him and Jayden, now. But I suspect you're running out of time to stop them from opening the rift."

I have no idea what colors Lilia wears, tbh

I've pictured Nico as a fan of the heathers: green, gray, blue. It's an aesthetic for his gardening self. Heathers feel right for getting dirty to me (I love them for the lab).

screenshot of a tumblr post from user “wildmansters” The thing that really boils my potatoes about Al in general is that I have been a creative professional for over a decade now and the devil has ALWAYS been in the details. Big and small, I've had single-person businesses rip me to shreds over how their colors turned out on newsprint, and have worked with huge companies with THICK brand guidelines with every detail of their brand identity laid out and enforced with an iron fist. But I guess all of that stuff doesn't matter anymore? Who gives a fuck if this Al generated baby has six fingers, that mom-and-pop shop is still going to use it. That rug from Temu says Happy Thanksgivirg? Oh well haha it's just a silly funny thing now (nevermind that you never would have given a B-grade item from a craft show the same consideration). I don't actually care that the Al Coca-cola ad has a truck that changes size every scene, but I can't help but think about how, if it had been some poor underpaid artist, they would have been laughed out of the building. I don't really know how to put it in a succint way but it just feels all the more obvious how much more grace and flexibility has always been possible but never offered.

Nico is giving me "What's up?" face when I drag him across the school parking lot. He points to Mel's name on his phone. "Nope. Mel's getting rest, and we're going on a field trip." This piques his interest. He dances around a bit at the thought, and I have to keep my hand in his to keep him from ZIGZAGGING in front of oncoming traffic. "Come on, Spooky Scary Skeleton," I say with a laugh, pulling him onto the sidewalk with me. “If you're going to dance all silly, at least do it out of people's way." He points at the parking lot we just left, about to where my car is. "No, we're close enough to walk. We're just waiting for..." "Here!" Azura bounds up behind us. "Sorry I'm late. Miss Bliss had a question about my English outline."

Now, tbf, in books 1 & 3, that’s more exciting than you’d think because she shapeshifts. In book 3 she realizes that her phone is actually shapeshifted too. Thus, it’s with her on each end of a non-human transformation

Rolling his eyes, Tennyson pointed to a drawer next to the fridge. “Check there, genius.” Poe shuffled through the drawer’s contents, coming up with a set of tiny screwdrivers a moment later. He let out a breath. “Thanks,” he said grudgingly. Tennyson grunted, punching this bread dough again. “Whatever gets you out of my kitchen faster. Your presence will sour my sweet cherry cobbler.” Poe glared, then stormed out of the kitchen and into the back yard, where Kip was already playing some game he had invented that involved the garden hose, a pair of lawn chairs, a bocci ball set, and three dozen empty aluminum cans. Poe sat at the patio table with some electronic device – not the END, thank fuck – in approximately twelve million pieces arrayed before him in a careful grid. For a second, Tennyson looked out the kitchen window at the twins, Kip happily creating chaos and Poe fixedly putting things in order.
