India did not get "herd" immunity from widespread initial COVID wave in '20 but did get hybrid immunity after killer wave in '21 + successful vax program in later '21. So few '22-23 excess deaths. Claims of herd immunity in late '20, early '21 misled.

Sadly ~3-4.5M Indians died, most in '21.
