New from me & Matt McKeever: the Trump administration purses pro-natalism by giving with one hand while taking away with the other.
Millions of Californians are at risk of going hungry as CalFresh and other federal benefits are delayed. But we donโ€™t wait โ€” we act.

Step up and support your neighbors: volunteer, donate, or spread the word. Together, we can help those in need.

My debut for @motherjones.com explores the Trump administrationโ€™s ambivalent pro-natalism. Thanks for the midwifery, @michaelmechanic.bsky.social.

If the Trump administration wants more babies, it shouldnโ€™t let poor families go hungry
Denying food and health benefits to single moms doesn't exactly scream: "pro-natalism."

Yes, the Trump administration is thinking about your familyโ€”but in ways that are largely unhelpful and somewhat creepy.

This is the first I'm hearing of diversity statements for one's bibliography, & I'm curious: is there anyone who doesn't use generative AI to produce this sort of content?

My recent book Thanks for Nothing is neo-Moynihan-ish, so we've thought a lot about him in the past couple of years.

It's the 60th anniversary of the Moynihan Report, & my colleague Matt McKeever & I aver that progressives and conservatives alike need to have another look at this "prophetic document." No paywall vvv

Sixty years later the Moynihan Report still divides us. American families have paid the price.

My pets are cuter than yours.

Ah, just losing interest in social media. But here's a good pic of both children cuddling with me.

& all is well, albeit busy with my interstate commute. & you?

To counter Trump regime attacks on their public university systems and other institutions, states should issue bonds, hold ballot initiatives, or related measures.

University of California system debt has an AA rating. Resist Trump abuses, support higher ed, and a fairly safe investment all in one.
Also when you do the math it would take a tiny contribution of $12.50 from each for California's 40 million citizens to replace the $500 million. California should put an emergency "FU Trump" higher education finance initiative on the ballot.

Enjoy your fentanyl & feel better!

I've taught college for almost 30 years, & things are much different now. Treating students like that will get you investigated. This year I published a collection of professor's investigation stories, including from @robertfrodeman.bsky.social & myself.

Are we experiencing "late capitalism" now that autism spectrum has become an important demo for the toothbrush market?

Congrats! Visit as in, give a lecture?

As I'm sure you know, the founders were terrified of the demos and sought a somewhat anti-democratic constitution for this reason.

But if you're gonna finger the invention of Fox, why not blame Reagan's repeal of the Fairness Doctine?

George Mason is a strange choice of universities for Trump to target. Its been the beneficiary of extensive Koch bros largesse. The law school is even named after Antonin Scalia.

It seems clear why the GOP keeps electing folks like her & MTG mad: they make the libs crazy. This is reason enough to keep sending them back to congress. The question is why the GOP base is so aggrieved.

I think she's experienced a breakdown of some sort over the past year. She used to be an unremarkable GOP rep, then she just became erratic.

My university just circulated suggested rephrasing for a bunch of terms that trigger the federal granting agencies. Here are some of the offending terms. The list comes from a lobbying outfit called Thorn Hill, which lists both govt & corporate sponsors.

This is political theater. And a betrayal of the public trust. @aaup.org @aaupmason.bsky.social

One minute behind the wheel of this Trabant made it clear what a failure communism is.

Large-scale incarceration. Also, no new immigration judges were funded.

Um, how do we know if this charming story is true?

Oof

Please elaborate. How so?
