DELMAS FOUNDATION GRANTS FOR RESEARCH IN VENICE AND FORMER VENETIAN TERRITORIES
The deadline for applications from British and Commonwealth candidates is 1st April 2025.

RIP Howard Burns, a gigantic figure in the study of Italian architectural history. I was his first PhD student and owe him more than words can say. He was a source of inspiration and boundless knowledge. Above all, he understood that architecture is part of history in its broadest sense.

Applications are now invited to this year's round of the Gladys Krieble Delmas grants for travel to and research on Venice and the former Venetian empire. Closing date 1st April 2025

It is gracious of you to thank me, but you did it all yourself!

Congratulations Emanuela!

The weird effects of climate change: in our garden in Cambridge we have roses and primroses blooming at the same time.

During a chance conversation with a Russian colleague in Cambridge I learned that my Architectural History of Venice has been published in Russian. It seems there has even been a one-hour radio programme about it!
